Family Day at Ponca — Lost Valley, Waterfalls & Swimming

Lost Valley, a roadside waterfall, a sandwich in Ponca, and a swim.

A relaxed Upper District loop built for families: hike the easy Lost Valley Trail in the morning, stop at a small roadside waterfall or two, grab lunch in Ponca, and cool off with a swim at the Ponca low-water bridge or Steel Creek Campground.

The plan

  1. Morning

    Arrive at Lost Valley by 8 AM to beat crowds. Lost Valley Trail (2.8 mi, very easy) to Eden Falls and the cave.

  2. Midday

    Drive back toward Ponca — keep an eye out for roadside cascades after rain.

  3. Lunch

    Pick up sandwiches in Ponca or bring your own.

  4. Afternoon

    Swim at the Ponca low-water bridge or drive down to Steel Creek Campground for a deeper river hole.

  5. Dinner

    Head back to Jasper for dinner options. Low Gap Cafe, Jasper Pizza, or The Ozark Cafe.
