⭐ The Rand Road Four Falls Tour
Part of the Leatherwood Wilderness Four Falls Road Trip — drive Rand Road and visit Cougar Falls, China Falls, Little Glory Hole, and Crosscut Falls in a single afternoon.
The falls
A tucked-away cascade in the Upper Buffalo watershed, Crosscut Falls rewards explorers who venture beyond the well-trodden trails. Relatively light seasonal flow means timing your visit after rainfall is essential — but in the right conditions, the falls cut through a beautifully sculpted rock channel that gives the waterfall its name. Best combined with other Upper district waterfalls on the same day trip.
What makes it special
Water slices through a narrow, sculpted rock channel — the cut groove in the bedrock is what gives the falls their name.
Best time to go
Flow is light and seasonal — plan to visit within a day or two of good rain. The falls can be barely a trickle in dry stretches.
No maintained trail to the falls. Expect off-trail route-finding and slick rock in the channel.
Getting there
From Big Flat head east on Hwy 14 for 3.8 miles and turn left onto Hwy 341. Go 2.3 miles and turn left onto Rand Road/FR#1118. Continue 2.5 miles and park. Work your way down into the drainage and follow the creek downstream to the top of the falls. Look for the secondary falls off to the left and find the spot to get down below the bluff for the full view. Quad: Big Flat.
