Buffalo National River, Middle District
The name says it all — Deer Leap Falls occupies a section of bluffline where the canyon narrows dramatically, the kind of terrain where deer have been known to bound across impossibly steep slopes. The falls drop over a sandstone ledge into a sheltered hollow surrounded by old hardwoods. Seasonal wet-weather flow; visit within 48 hours of good rain for the best show. Off-trail navigation required — not recommended without a downloaded GPS track.
