Buffalo National River, Middle District — near Erbie

Named after Jim Liles, one of the volunteers most responsible for establishing the hiking trail system within the Buffalo National River, this waterfall is a fitting tribute — easy to reach, beautiful, and accessible to nearly everyone. The walk from the road is barely 100 yards, making it one of the only true waterfall experiences on the Buffalo that works for families with small children, older visitors, or anyone who just wants a quick look without a long hike.

The trail

From Highway 7, take the gravel Erbie Campground Road about 3.5 miles. Park at the pull-off on the right just after crossing a small creek — that creek is the water that feeds the falls. An unmaintained but well-traveled trail dips into the woods on the opposite side of the creek and leads directly to the falls. The Buffalo River Trail crosses right over the top of Liles Falls, so it's also a natural stop for BRT hikers. Best after rain. Dogs not permitted.

Getting there

From Highway 7 north of Jasper, turn onto the gravel Erbie Campground Road and follow it about 3.5 miles. Park at the pull-off on the right just after crossing a small creek. Trailhead GPS: 36.0565008, -93.1968771. Use the map link below for turn-by-turn directions.
