The falls
Fishtrap Hollow Falls is one of dozens of 83 ft ribbon falls that ring the Buffalo River watershed. It runs hardest in late winter and early spring, when snowmelt and Ozark thunderstorms recharge the creeks. Detailed route notes for this falls are coming soon — check back for trailhead directions, GPX, and current conditions.
Getting there
Difficult off-trail bushwhack with no maintained trail — a downloaded GPS track is highly recommended. Falls are at 36.06495, -93.29887 (Ponca Quad — UTM 473101E, 3990983N). ~4.2 miles round trip. The terrain in and out of the hollow is rough and exposed in places — it's hard to get in and back out, and the bluff lines through here are dangerous. Go with a partner, plan extra time, and don't attempt in wet or icy conditions.
