The falls
Fuzzybutt Falls is one of dozens of 16 ft ribbon falls that ring the Buffalo River watershed. It runs hardest in late winter and early spring, when snowmelt and Ozark thunderstorms recharge the creeks. Detailed route notes for this falls are coming soon — check back for trailhead directions, GPX, and current conditions.
What makes it special
Sits at the head of a lush, mossy box canyon — a tucked-away grotto that feels much more remote than its short walk suggests. Second stop on the Falling Water Creek six-falls stretch.
History
Fuzzybutt Falls picked up its memorable name from Arkansas nature photographer and guidebook author Tim Ernst; older locals knew the same drainage as 'Box Canyon Falls.'
Caves & springs
Fuzzybutt sits at the head of a dramatic box canyon with high, moss-covered limestone walls — effectively a long, open grotto rather than a true cave.
Reaching Fuzzybutt requires several creek crossings through a narrow canyon. During heavy rain those crossings can rise fast and trap hikers on the wrong side — turn around if the creek is up or storms are forecast.
Getting there
Along Falling Water Creek on the edge of the Richland Creek Wilderness. From Ben Hur, head south on FR 1205 and park at the Horsetail Falls pullout. Reach Horsetail Falls first, then continue along the creek to Fuzzybutt — ~2.0 miles round trip. Fuzzybutt sits at the head of a small, moss-walled box canyon. Part of the six-falls Falling Water Creek stretch (Horsetail, Fuzzybutt, Intersection, Six Finger, Keefe, Falling Water).
